Prof. Dr.Irene Mathijssen

Professor Mathijssen has devoted her career to treating patients with congenital craniofacial conditions and the scientific research this involves, accepting the invitation to become a member of Headlines’ Research Committee to continue this work.

She studied Medicine at Erasmus University in Rotterdam and has been a plastic surgeon at Erasmus Medical Centre since 2005, where she is currently Head of Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery. She completed a craniofacial surgery fellowship in Paris before becoming a professor in 2011.

Irene is also Coordinator of the European Reference Network on rare craniofacial anomalies and ENT disorders (ERN Cranio), a network of 43 hospitals from 21 European countries.
