Fundraising – Hardington and West Coker Cricket Club
Lucy Pearse, mother of Monty (Metopic synostosis)

In 2014, our perfectly imperfect little boy entered his new world and our family. When he was 6 weeks old we learnt that he had craniosynostosis (metopic) and so our journey began. We learnt lots through Monty's first year of life; helped by the knowledgeable and supportive members of the Headlines charity and professionals within Oxford hospital, where Monty receives treatment and ongoing monitoring.

We were overwhelmed by the support that we received from friends, family and the wider community during the build up to and after Monty's operation. Monty's father is an avid cricket player and one of our close friends and a fellow team player nominated Headlines to be their clubs 'charity of choice' last season. Throughout the cricket season the whole team and wider community around the village worked hard to raise a record-breaking amount for their chosen charity - Headlines. Some of the main fundraisers included a pig racing night (no real pigs were harmed - wind up alternatives provided ample entertainment!) and a 20:20 match day and BBQ where lots of families got involved. Thanks to the generosity of all those associated with the team, Hardington and West Coker Cricket Club raised a brilliant £750 for Headlines!

I had the pleasure of presenting the cheque to the trustees on their behalf during this year’s Headlines conference. It was a very special moment for us as a family, marking the start of many fundraising years to come. Thank you to all who have and continue to support us as a family and a special thanks to the willingness of the Headlines volunteers aiming to ensure everyone gets appropriate information and support.
